The rapid growth of hyperscale data center facilities has created a shortage of available power, resulting in interconnection queues that can stretch to 5 or more years. Utilities
The Challenge:
Regulated utility companies have the complex responsibility of expanding and decarbonizing their existing electrical service territory while maintaining the legacy fossil fuel facilities still needed to maintain system reliability. Many of these urban thermal generation plants now operate only a few hundred hours annually during regional demand peaks. While these facilities are still needed for peaking and reliability functions, they are unable to convert their underutilized interconnection capacity to energy storage due to site space constraints.
The B-NestTM Solution:
B-NestTM enables Utilities to locate energy storage capacity on space-constrained parcels near or adjacent to existing substations, including sites they may already own. This ensures capacity goes where it is most needed, at least-cost to rate-payers.

Independent Power Producers
The Challenge:
Utility-scale energy storage projects typically begin with an interconnection application at a key Point of Interconnection (POI), often near congested, high-volatility nodes in urban areas where land is scarce. When land constraints limit onsite energy storage capacity, developers may adjust down their power capacity to align with the feasible energy storage duration of 2-8 hours based on market incentives. As demand for longer-duration storage grows, underutilization of interconnection capacity at these critical nodes means a greater share of project value left on the table.

B-NestTM provides a path for IPPs to capture previously unavailable revenue streams from space-constrained energy storage projects at high value nodes.
B-NestTM enables IPPs to:
- Maximize energy capacity at the desired duration in proximity to a target POI.
