Energy Vault and NuCube Energy have announced a strategic partnership to advance the deployment of NuSun, a nuclear microreactor platform designed for high-energy-demand sites like AI-driven data centers. The collaboration combines NuCube’s nuclear expertise with Energy Vault’s VaultOS™ Energy Management System and B-VAULT™ Battery Energy Storage System to deliver scalable, safe, and carbon-free baseload power. This integrated solution addresses the growing energy demands of large energy users by providing cost-effective and operationally flexible power generation.
The partnership also leverages Energy Vault’s advanced material science and storage solutions to support NuSun’s shielding and containment systems, enhancing safety and efficiency while expediting deployment. Energy Vault will integrate its VaultOSTM software to enable joint control of NuSun and battery storage, ensuring uninterrupted 24/7 operation for AI data centers. This setup allows dynamic load management, multi-unit coordination, and seamless energy delivery during peak and off-peak periods, improving responsiveness to diverse energy demands.
NuSun’s innovative technology incorporates TRISO fuel and heat pipe technology, eliminating most moving parts for improved safety, reliability, and licensing timelines. Fully enclosed in transportable stainless-steel vessels, NuSun reactors minimize emergency planning requirements and streamline regulatory approval by using pre-characterized materials. Together, these features make NuSun, B-VAULTTM, and VaultOSTM a modular and scalable solution capable of rapidly addressing the U.S. data center market’s projected energy consumption of 500 TWh by 2028, ensuring a dependable, zero-carbon energy supply.
